Press Release: Belgian Company Biofase Launches Brand-New Organic Products

Biofase Launches Amazing New Product Line

Belgian company Biofase made headlines last year when it presented its 100% biodegradable straws. Biofase's products are made from avocado seeds, endowing them with benefits that their paper or bamboo cousins do not have. Recently, the Flemish expanded its range and Biofase straws are now available to consumers in smaller packages.

Naturally, we would be delighted if you, as a journalist, reviewer, blogger or vlogger, could pay attention to this important new ecological development. We have review material available and, obviously, it’s also possible to request interviews with the man behind the innovative green production process that Biofase is building on, Guido Castelein.

The Current Situation

In our previous press release, we already mentioned that we are currently in the midst of the sixth mass extinction in history, but the current SARS-CoV-2 epidemic has sent statistics in unexpected directions: on the one hand, there’s less pollution because of the traffic lull caused by lockdown periods; on the other hand, we all seem to be using more plastic than ever.

Of course, there are far more polluting materials than just plastics in existence, so it should be clear that there’s absolutely no way to continue justifying the use of non-recyclable items.

Some countries have already committed to becoming more ecological-minded by 2021 and many nations have pledged to produce no (non-recyclable) waste by 2025 or to use only fully reusable, recyclable, or compostable packaging. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has shaken things up significantly: low fossil fuel prices, disrupted recycling chains and the increased share of single-use packaging threaten to cause even more problems for us all.

However, there’s also good news to be shared: people around the globe are becoming more aware of environmental issues, more and more companies are opting to use other materials, and more harmful substances are being excluded from our food packaging. It stands to reason that the Circular Economic Action Plan 2.0 of the European Commission has already been called a cornerstone of the European Green Deal. As a company, Biofase is part of an essential global movement that aims not only to reduce the ecological footprint, but also to do this with high-quality top products, motivating consumers to buy them for much more than just their low environmental impact.

Biofase

Avocado seeds are used to develop the Biofase cutlery, plates, packaging and straws. In order to accomplish this, one needs to go to Mexico, where the popularity of avocados is causing a huge problem: 45% of production is situated in the land of the sombrero.

By using avocado seeds that would otherwise end up in the rubbish, Biofase is trying to contribute to relieving the environmental crisis, but there’s more; after all, the Biofase alternatives offer numerous advantages.

  • Use agricultural waste and not, for example, potatoes or maize

  • Patented and therefore reliable technology

  • Much firmer than other alternatives due to the connection between avocado biopolymers and synthetic organic compounds

  • Structure is maintained even when drinking or eating hot food

  • Considerably cheaper than glass or metal

  • Do not need to be cleaned afterwards

  • Decompose naturally within one year without the treatment that many other substances require underground

The fact that, even during these trying pandemic times, the hospitality sector is willing to work more ecologically, is amply demonstrated by the 1,500 bars and restaurants that started adopting Biofase products over the past year.

Product Range & Availability

Naturally, Biofase focuses on the catering industry, companies and organisations, but the cutlery, straws, plates and packaging will soon also be available to the average consumer. The takeaway sector, which is currently experiencing unprecedented growth, also benefits greatly from the use of Biofase packaging. This is because it’s much firmer and has a more consistent structure than the wafer-thin cardboard boxes or the paper currently used to deliver your food, while environmentally harmful packaging no longer needs to be used at all.
