Press Release:

Corvus Belli Releases Ground-Breaking Narrative-Driven Expansion for Warcrow

For more than 20 years, Corvus Belli has received glowing reviews for its amazing metal miniatures, miniature battle games, and board games. Its science fiction skirmish game, Infinity, is undeniably one of the most recognized titles out there. Known for its immersive rules, extremely diverse factions, and – of course – highly detailed, expertly sculpted miniatures, it is supported by a large, passionate fan base and energetic community.

Only a single year after first releasing its fantasy skirmish wargame, Warcrow, in retail, the Spanish company announces a new milestone: Song of the Dormant, a bold, narrative-driven expansion set for two players that is sure to break entirely new ground in the hobby… and now we would love to give you the opportunity to herald its multi-tiered release from the very front lines!

Warcrow Lore

On the continent of Lindwurm, the fragile balance of power between the human realms, dwarven fortress cities, and elven dominions has begun to collapse after the reappearance of Warcrow – the mythic star that is the source of all magical power.

Every time Warcrow nears the planet, magic surges, the properties of the metal known as orichalcum are greatly enhanced, supernatural occurrences grow more frequent, and chaos follows. Terrifyingly, this shifting flow of magic also seems to herald great calamity and even the fall of entire civilizations.

The last time Warcrow appeared in the skies, the entire continent was still dominated by the elven empire, which has since crumbled – fallen apart during a bloody civil war that split the elves into two rivaling factions. Chillingly, it seems that the Dark Minded elves who originally doomed the empire by pushing the limits of magic far beyond its safe limits, have returned to the world, many of them transformed into abhorable monstrosities.

Recently, the thick, red-tinged fog known as the Crimson Tide has begun retreating from the large central continent of Assail. The consequences remain largely unclear but will undoubtedly be immense, as long-buried secrets are uncovered once more.

Warcrow Mechanics

Warcrow borrows some rules elements from Infinity, but takes them in new directions, fuses them with fresh mechanics, and ultimately becomes its own entity – a ruleset conducive to fast-paced, immersive, versatile, and tactical gameplay. Featuring a proprietary round tracker that also monitors major events and physical unit cards for quick reference, it uses custom 8-sided dice with unique symbols for lightning-fast resolution.

On their turn, players activate one of their units. Thanks to simplified movement – only the leader model's distance must be measured – maneuvering units across the battlefield is fluid. With innovative combat mechanics, remarkable magic, and a wide variety of missions, no two sessions play out the same.

The Campaign Storyline: Song of the Dormant

Hidden deep beneath the surface of the Dormant Lake lies the Wheel of Mathalazz – a powerful ancient artifact that is said to unlock communication with unimaginable primordial powers.

Amongst the troops of Feudom, there stands one who would brave the sinister ruins and dark machinations of the Scions in order to recover the Wheel: none other than Verena of Aurtigard, the majestic High Priestess of Selas, carried into that position by her grandfather, the Duke of Aurore. Defying the Sempiternus on multiple occasions, no other has ever reached the level of power the goddess Selas channels through Verena’s prayers. Yet, even her mastery over divine intervention does not guarantee prolonged safety vis-à-vis her enemies.

Moving to intercept Verena’s party is Master Uruk, He Who Is Without Prejudice. As a Progenitor, Uruk not only survived the journey into his own consciousness that is the Dark Well of the Soul and the magical procedure called the Palingenesia, in which his original heart was replaced by an artificial one made of chitin and orichalcum; he also experimented on himself, modifying his body to the extent that he now not only masters magic, but the art of battle as well.

And so it shall come to pass that Verena and her escorts will inescapably come to clash with Uruk and his following of degenerative former elves, all in an effort to uncover one of the world’s most powerful artifacts. Whether the battle will unfold in a cursed forest or in the rocky caves of an eerie subterranean lake where the whispers of slumbering deities echo through the passages, the conflict is almost sure to end in blood and gore.

The Factions in Song of the Dormant

Warcrow: Song of the Dormant includes opposing miniatures from two distinct factions:

  • Feudom: The second-largest kingdom on Lindwurm, Feudom was founded by the descendants of the ancient Widtha tribes, who succeeded in unifying a large part of the territory left devastated after the Elven Great War more than one thousand years ago. A prosperous realm inhabited by the Chosen People, most still honor the old ways in their worship of the twin moon goddesses. Their military Order of the Knights of Losna and the Order of the Sacred Priestesses of Selas have become powerful forces in their own right. But of late, Feudom has lost territory due to incursions from the north, and action will need to be taken to stave off further losses.

  • Scions of Yaldabaoth: Scattered across Lindwurm and with no country to call their own, the Scions of Yaldabaoth are all that remains of what they themselves consider to be the only rightful rulers of Gae Assail—the former Elven Empire. Hated and persecuted for more than a millennium, the Scions have so far been relegated to waging a more inconspicuous underground war. While elves have a much higher affinity for magic than any other living creatures in the world, only these “Dark Minded” dare to embrace it fully, unafraid of the Tinge that taints such arcane endeavors. This allows them to bend the Fog to their will, create monsters, and even break the seemingly impassable barrier between life and death.
